Overnight Respite:
1. Why would a family use overnight care?
Many families in the Boston and Metro West area are actually relocated to this area away from their home towns and families and don’t have their extended families here for assistance. Many families of this “sandwich” generation have older parents that are not physically able to assist and may need care themselves. Also, so many families have business commitments that require a partner to travel soon after the birth of their newborn.
2. Is there a “registration fee” ?
No, there is no registration fee to work with Mother & Child.
3. Do I need to pay travel expenses for the Newborn Specialists?
No, there are no travel fees. The team expects to commute to your residence.
4. Do you have insurance?
Yes, Mother & Child has Professional liability insurance and Workmen’s Comp policies. Many of the nurses also carry their own professional liability policies as well.
5. Will I need to provide a place to park?
Yes, we do ask that they family provides a parking spot or client will cover the expense of overnight parking
6. May I use a credit card for payment?
Payment may be made with a personal check or a credit card. There will be a 3% fee applied to your balance for the use of the credit card.
7. What if I’m not a first time mom?
That’s fine with us. I’m sure your in need of an extra set of hands to help with laundry and kitchen cleanup, as well as a good nights sleep. Having other children to care for is an added challenge to a tired postpartum mother.
8. Do I have to make a long-term commitment?
No you do not need a long-term commitment. A single night or many more, you decide what would be the most helpful for you and your family. For the most part we are a short-term service but if you need support through 6 months, we’ll be glad to help.
9. Will I meet our postpartum assistant before the first shift? We are not usually able to coordinate a meeting with your actual caregiver before the first night. In some cases we do have time and this does take place. Usually, you will meet with the Director, Kathleen Todd-Seymour, to discuss your personal needs and develop specific care plan for your newborn.
10. What does an actual night shift consist of? We
offer a nine hour shift, 9:00PM-6:00AM. During this time frame,
we will take care of diaper changes, swaddle & sooth, feed
and offer general newborn care to your child. We will
also take care of the baby laundry and nursery area. If needed,
we will wash dishes/empty dishwasher and pick-up kitchen.
11. Who is/are the women that will be caring for my newborn baby? Depending on the coverage that you are requesting, the care may be offered by one or two postpartum assistants. All postpartum assistants are handpicked by Kathleen, trained, receive a supervised orientation, are insured, CORI checked and infant CPR certified. All assistants have years of newborn care and breastfeeding experience. They are in constant contact with the office to report on their nightly shifts.
